You’re worried about the pasta sticking to the bottom of the pot, so you get up from your chair and take a few steps towards the stove. The bird looks up at you from the drawer.

“Aha! I found it…my hot things holder!”

image

“It was going to be a surprise for after pasta dinner, but since you’re right here…I also baked a cake! Would you mind fetching the dairy alternative milk product from the fridge?“

image

Together you and the bird finish preparing the hearty pasta dinner in the tiny, warm, comforting kitchen. The pasta and cake are the most delicious you’ve ever eaten. You sit together and exchange stories about your travels and adventures long into the night.

The bird brings you another piece of chocolate cake.
“You know…you could stay here with me. As long as you like!”

and that’s exactly what you decided to do.

THE END

  • john pilger: with all the disasters you've seen, how do you have a great deal of hope?
  • martha gellhorn: i think the world is just as awful as it can be at any given moment, and a certain number of people appear at any given moment and try to keep it from being unbearably awful. [ . . . ] the history behind us is perfectly terrible, the history of now is perfectly terrible, the history ahead of us will be perfectly terrible, but unless we are totally obliterated, there will always be a certain number of people fighting like hell to keep it from being unbearably worse.

Thought I’d do a quick follow up on my budget beauty picks from months and months ago. These are all things I use in my own skincare routine or have in the past as replacements for things that cost more money or are less accessible to find. I find them to be as effective as my regular skincare routine, which is catered to acne prone, dry and sensitive skin. Everything is under $20.

  • These Black Pearl Hydrogel Eye Patches ($10) are something I picked up in Tokyo and like to use every morning when I wake up. They just feel lovely and I reduce the swelling of my eye bags in the morning so I don’t really color correct my dark circles anymore. I wouldn’t consider them a miracle product especially if you deal with very drastic dark circles, but they’re fun, cheap, and nice. I drop in some extra face mask serum into my jar so now it’s more of a custom serum in there now.
  • My favorite peeling gel is less than $20. You can buy it on Amazon at fluctuating prices, but I will let you know right now that the price there will probably go up soon because of its popularity on there makes the manufacturers unhappy. You can buy it directly from the brand website using the code arabellekcon or KCONBEAUTY and get a free mini travel for a little more money, plus samples. (I don’t get commission, but I am an ambassador for the brand.)
  • Garnier Micellar Water, $7. The cleansing water I use in the morning and also to take off my makeup as first step in my night time skincare routine is relatively inexpensive. I have other more expensive ones like the Bioderma line but honestly I don’t see any big or noticeable difference. I go through makeup remover often so it’s not like I want to recommend or use something that costs $35 every time I re-up.
  • CosRx Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser is $10 and one of the best face cleansers on the market anywhere, period. Like, technically - this is very boring, very good for your skin. All my friends with utterly perfect skin - of varying skin types - use this.
  • During travel, I use this Hada Labo Toner ($11) - I love Hada Labo products, I wouldn’t mind using only their brand exclusively which is saying A LOTTTTTTTT. When my skin wigged out in Tokyo, I got the travel sized skin routine from a 7-11 (Japanese 7-11′s are the best) and my skin got much better, very fast. Been using it in my travels ever since.
  • Not to be a stan especially ‘cause I buy it out my own pocket (screams) but the CosRx Snail Essence  ($16) stuff is like… so good……it’s like…absurd. Anyway buy it right now.
  • For serums/ampoule products, most of the ones I like are more than $20 but you can grab this Hyaluronic Acid one for $14. Hyaluronic Acid products have helped with my skin elasticity and moisture retention.
  • These are my favorite sheet masks, period. The boxes are typically $30 but they’re on sale for $20 until 8/11 with the code KCONLA. Some other masks I like are these, this Acure one, this one, these, which all clock under $20.
  • TBH sunscreen shouldn’t be super expensive, the ones I use right now all clock under $30, my favorite is this Dr. G one ($24) but I like this Neutrogena one too and it’s only $7 so I don’t feel terrible about running through it super fast.

I’ll do a new version of this in the coming weeks but I still like all of these if you’re wondering!
